Disney on a Budget

It is no secret that I live the single momma life.  Which means one income pays all the bills.  Life can be a little tight around here.  BUT we always find that extra bit of money to get our Disney fix on.  It isn’t easy but it is possible.  So how do I do it?  How do I do Disney on a budget?  I ask myself this all the time….here is what I came up with.  I mean,  this is how I do it:

  1. Annual-Pass We are Annual Passholders.  My first year I purchased our Disney passes through AAA.  There is a slight discount that saved me about $25 per ticket.  However, you must be a AAA member to qualify for the discount and tickets must be paid in full.  Renewing I opt to pay Disney direct and I utilize the flex pay.  Paying for Gold status a little each month.  This really helps stretch that dolla!
  2. We eat before we go to the parks.  Let’s face it Disney food can be quite costly for a single momma with two very hungry kiddos.  Our favorite place to stop for a quick bite is Chick-Fil-A.  We get a great meal for a fraction of the Disney price AND leave with a full belly.  Definitely can make it to lunch without hearing those three money eating words, “Mom, I’m hungry.”
  3. fruitWe bring snacks.  Yes!  Disney will allow you to bring a few munchies into the parks.  Now, don’t pack your whole fridge.  Bring a few apples, grapes, carrot sticks, maybe even a Gogurt. Anything that will fit in a small lunch bag.  Then put this bag in your back pack.  You may even want to freeze a bottle of water to keep the snacks cold.  It is Florida and we are known for those warm summer temperatures all year round.  Well, for the most part.  We aren’t called the Sunshine state for nothing.
  4. disney waterWe get ice cold water from Disney for FREE!  That’s right ya’ll!  Free water at Disney.  The magic words are, “May I have a cup of ice water, please?”  Just say this magical phrase at any F & B stand or restaurant where they serve fountain drinks and you will get it for free.  You will thank me for this one later.
  5. We buy souvenirs only for special occasions.  We only visit WDW EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND.  So, I limit purchases.  It is ok to say no most of the time.  Then when you purchase a goodie the lil one’s cherish it more.

So now you know, how I do Disney on a Budget.  Don’t get me wrong it is so fun to spend that money in the parks, but to feel that squeeze in my bank account later is not so fun.   And for anyone worried that we are missing out on Disney Treats and Dining.  We definitely are not.  Occasionally I do  purchase treats in the park and make reservations for  Disney Dining,  BUT only for special occasions.  It is ok to limit these purchases.

I truly believe, magic is in the eye of the beholder.

It is recommended to reserve your lanes 24 hours in advance, especially if you have a large group.  Spare me…Splitsville does offer walk in pricing, but this is not a guarantee. Lane usage is based on your party size to maximize your game and you will be pleased to know the shoe rental and bumpers are included.

Upon arrival you will check in at the front desk where you will provide names and shoes

sizes for all bowlers.  Make sure to inform the cast member of any bowlers that would like to use bumpers.  This information will be saved to their bowling profile.  During the game the bumpers will set when the bowler’s profile requires them and drop when not needed.  This is super cool!  Everyone can bowl on the same lane and are accommodated as needed.  Your shoes will then be placed in a basket  and a cast member will guide your party to the assigned lane for your game.  Take caution:  the game time will already be ticking away so you may want to be fast on your feet and get your game shoes on.

Got the munchies?  Splitsville is home to some of the most tantalizing “Alley Food” known to mankind.  The unique menu offered is a blend of traditional and upscale offerings that will send your taste buds spinning.  A few of my menu favorites include:

Smile Pretties! It is Friday and I am feeling fabulous and wish you love and happiness for your weekend adventures!  If you are in the Orlando area you may want to find Adventure at Disney Springs for the Road to the Races tour where you can see Lightning McQueen and other Cars 3 stars.  This event is scheduled through Sunday.  Don’t worry if you are not able to attend you can still enjoy the event!!! I will go live on my Instagram this weekend while attending the event found on the Marketplace side.  If you are following me on Instagram  you will receive a notification when I go live and if you are not following me @forkandspoonley you really should hit that follow button.  I will try to do more live feeds from the parks and when we are out and about as much as I can.  If you would like more information about the Road to the Races tour you can find it here:  Cars3tour.  The tour is kicking off here in Orlando and making it’s way around the USA!

So, today I wanted to share with you a Disney Bounding look I put together for one of my favorite characters from Pixar’s movie INSIDE OUT.  There is just so much to love about her.   I just want to hug her and turn her blue into a new hue.  SADNESS!

So here I am with @JulietTheFirst as “Joy and Sadness” as we took over headquarters.  This was truly an emotional day.

Disney Bounding is tons of fun and acquires a lot of attention from cast members, characters, and other guests.  Overall it adds to the magic of the day!  So to complete this look you will need a blue wig, large-black circle glasses, blue dress with Peter Pan collar, nude colored flats, and blue lace peek a boo socks.

You can find the wig and dress on Amazon.  To keep within the Disney Guidlines for dressing up in the park I chose to wear the dress vs the sweater and pants look that Sadness rocks so well.  Simply because the wig and glasses really made the look.

Do you Disney Bound?  Share your Dressed in Disney looks below!!!  I would love some new inspiration.  Also, if you would like to see me Disney Bound as a specific character around the parks post your suggestion in the comments.

Lost in Neverland with Tootles- Halloween Costume Idea!

Second star to the right and straight on til morning. Before you know it you are in Neverland soaring above the clouds with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell and fighting pirates like that old codfish Captain Hook.  Oh, what fun imagination can be!  Halloween is a great time for families to dress up and take on a whole new character.  This is the time of year in which my children dress up in a different costume every weekend as they enjoy the season’s greatest festivities.  One of our themes this year was The Neverland Crew in which my son played the part as Tootles (Skunk) the Lostboy.

In the animated film: Peter Pan, Tootles wears a skunk costume.  Our version replicates the ensemble with denim overalls, a black shirt (with white felt along the belly and a white stripe along the back,) an adorable skunk tail, and a Davy Crockett style skunk cap.   The overalls and black shirt came straight out of my boy’s closet.  I purchased the white felt from a craft store.  Using fabric glue I glued a round patch for the belly and a stripe along the back.  The skunk tail is from Sweet 16 in Stitches and is made with felt and stuffed with a polyester filling for the perfect finished look.  It easily attaches to any material with a silver clip.  Also available from Sweet 16 in Stitches: fox tail, racoon tail, and a cow tail! Tails that are perfect for pretend play and the creation of a new Lostboy costume.  The skunk cap is made of acrylic and is very soft to the touch.   My son enjoyed wearing this cap at the parks, even in the sunny Florida weather.   It is absolutely prefect hat for outdoor activities and is compliments of Crooket Coon Caps.  Other styles: coon cap, fox cap, and a Alaskan wolf cap are available on their Etsy shop.  Complete this look with black freckles and a pinch of pixie dust!

Tootles may have lost his marbles, but he still has his adventurous charm and this costume represents it well.  Complete with skunk cap and tail this Lostboy is ready to jump in line for following the leader at the sound of Pan’s crow and so will yours!

Trekking through Africa in style

photopass_visiting_ak_7829551592_edited.jpgJambo, friends!  I am so excited to share the wildest Minnie ears this side of the safari by Faffybelle Creations.  Inspired by Africa’s most astounding creatures the giraffe and the cheetah.  Be fabulous in the sparkle reticulated giraffe pattern or fierce in the rainbow cheetah print.  No matter what you chose you will stand out from the crowd at Animal Kingdom.

Faffybelle Creations uses high quality fabric with the most unique print  that can’t be found anywhere else.  Ears are designed firm and lightweight and easily slide on to any hairstyle with a matching headband.  The giraffe inspired Minnie ears are one of the most popular sellers from this Etsy boutique.  They feature a miniature giraffe head at the center of a sparkly gold bow and are encrusted with a beaded trim.  The cheetah inspired Minnie ears are a new design and feature a rainbow cheetah print with a pastel pink bow attached to a hot pink headband.

Faffybelle’s Minnie ears are so eloquently crafted, as the designer pays attention to every detail.  I could not find a single flaw in these ears.  I consider them high end quality and when compared to that of ears purchased from the park; more for your money.  If you are looking for character inspired ears or holiday ears you can find them on Faffybelle Creations  Etsy storefront and listed on her Instagram.

Once Upon an Ear

fd8755385ef64b33b2e2fcae675b965bOnce upon a time, in a land far away there lived a beautiful princess with long brown hair and big brown eyes.  The princess lived in a beautiful and very enchanted castle with her mother,  the Queen and her brother, a brave knight. The castle was tucked deep in the Enchanted Forest and life was perfect.  This princess was like no other, she enjoyed archery and boots over a spot of tea and petticoats and never wore a crown.  No, this princess wore mouse ears upon her head instead.  Her collection was quite complete with a different pair of mouse ears to wear each day.  She had a plethora of ears covered in sparkles, bows, flowers, and lace.

One day the princess received word that she was to take a journey to a foreign land called Magic Kingdom, which was full of mysteries and spell bounding thrills.  Her quest was quite simple,  to triumph over the pleasantries of Magic Kingdom and she was to bring along with her the finest crown of her land and present it to the Sparkle Fairy in return for a reward.  The princess took on the quest in hopes that her kingdom would finally have a name.  She was quite excited and knew she would need to represent her kingdom well.  This was a chance of a lifetime and would finally land her family’s castle on the map.   The princess wanted to share the story of her enchanted castle with the Sparkle Fairy and got busy spinning away using only the finest of cloth materials, fillers, and decorative bits and pieces. In just a few days she conjured up an adorable pair of ears.  The headband provided a tight fit and was very durable given her the ability to wear them on her long journey and withstand her quest.  The ears were firm not flimsy and were covered in a soft, white fabric that sparkled in the sunlight.  In the center of the ears was a pink and a purple bow with a small teapot applique.  This applique represented one of her dearest friends, Mrs. Potts who has made the enchanted castle her home since the fall of the princesses father,  the King who was known throughout the land as the Beast.  Mrs. Potts was not only a friend, but also the princesses closest confidant and the queen’s hero.  She is also known as the best tea maker known in all realms of the world.

After  a long and thrilling journey through Magic Kingdom, the princess completed her quest.  Although not a crown, the Sparkle Fairy was intrigued with the spellbinding ears.  The sparkle fairy granted the princesses wish and named the kingdom, “Once Upon an Ear,” the land of fanciful ears.

Since that day, Once Upon an Ear has been making fantastical Minnie ears that can be customized to meet your fancy.  Customized ears can take up to 7 days to make, so order early.  Ready to ship ears are available on storenvy and most ears found on Instagram can be remade.
