Bring Your Bible to School Day- October 8th! reblogged from Focus on the Family

Reblogged from Focus on the Family.  Not my original work.  Sharing Bring Your Bible to School Day.

The Bible Should Be Celebrated—Not Banned!
Focus on the Family. Focus on the Family.
Students Shouldn’t Have to Hide Their Faith

A teacher “humiliates a fifth grader for reading the Bible during free reading time.”

“A student is fighting for students’ rights after a public high school banned them from praying, singing Christian songs, and discussing religious topics during their free time.”

“One couple says their daughter was banned from reading the Bible at school. … The alleged Bible ban isn’t sitting too well with parents.”

Ready to Wed
Do you know students with a heart for God’s Word? Then they’ll love Bring Your Bible to School Day, a free-speech event for students on Oct. 8sponsored by Focus on the Family.
Download your free, get-started guide today!
That’s just a small sampling from television reports we’ve seen within the last year about students being censored or punished for their faith. Do you agree with us that students shouldn’t be forced to hide their Biblical beliefs when they walk in the school door?

The fact is, they do have the religious-freedom right to bring their Bible to school and read it during free time.

But the good news is, you can be a part of empowering and encouraging Christian students:

Let them know about Bring Your Bible to School Day™ on Oct. 8!

Last year, an estimated 8,000 students participated in every state in the nation. This year at least three times that many are expected to participate!

Will you be a part of making this a nationwide movement?

On this special day, students—from kindergarten to college—will celebrate religious freedom and share God’s hope with their friends. Help spread the word by taking three easy steps:

  1. Sign up; then share this link with other students and their Let them know that we’ve created Elementary, Teen and Pastor/Parent Editions of the downloadable guides.
  2. Share sample announcements with church leaders so they can let the youth in their congregation know about it.
  3. Join the conversation! Like us on Facebook® and follow us on Twitter®;

Thank you for your heart for empowering Christian youth across the nation and for working with us to protect religious freedoms for future generations.

Bang Bang POW!

Bullet jewelry aint something new…it has been around since folks have been shooting off guns.  The symbolism of the  bullet shell is great power and for many a purdy accessory.  The bullet necklace is made from a spent shell casing, there is no actual bullet.

Curry County Love is a shop on Etsy that makes incredible bullet jewelery.  Courtney Thompson is the designer behind Curry County Love.  She specializes in necklaces, earrings, and custom pieces.  Very cute and juvenile and absolutely perfect for that redneck heart.  Also a great way to honor someone special in the military. A symbol of freedom and sacrifice.

Here is my daughter modeling the beautiful charm bullet necklace:

How do you share the events of 9/11 with a five year old???

After school my five year old son asked, “why is everyone talking about 9/11 mom, isn’t it just another day?”  His K teacher briefly mentioned that 13 years ago today our country was attacked, and that was that.  Well, I started to share with him the tragedy as nicely as I could (he is 5.)  I explained to him  that there are evil people in this world that like to hurt people and want to take away our freedoms.  We were attacked on 9/11 in an act of terror and evil people took over planes.  These evil people flew the planes into two tall buildings called the twin towers and killed thousands of people.  I told him there was another plane that was headed for the Pentagon and how the passengers on that plane were so brave and stood up to the hijackers and caused the plane to crash in a field.  I explained to him that many innocent and heroic people died that day.  There were fire fighters, police officers, and every day people that will always be remembered in our hearts.

We need to teach our children of the terrors in the world and help them to be prepared.  We can not let our history be forgotten and we need to continue to fight for our freedoms.

How Should Christians Vote a book review

Who is ready for a change in the white-house? Honestly, it is time for Christians to take a stand and fight back against the socialist that has infected our country. We need to put God back in the white house and restore the damage that Obama has caused with his carelessness and disrespect of what America is really about. He has left our country in shambles and vulnerable to more terrorist attacks and alien invasions along our borders. We were once a strong country, stood out among the rest and we can be that proud country once again. It is very simple…Christians need to stop hiding and get out and do something about it. Obama has no respect for God, Our Soldiers, Our Constitution, or America.
Follow this link to read an unedited interview that was conducted by Cathleen Falsani, the religion reporter for the respected Chicago Sun-Times newspaper and you just might be surprised with what Obama has to say about his stand on religion…or maybe not.

While preparing for the next election we as Christians need to remember that we are not to vote as Republicans or Democrats. We need to vote as Godly men and women and cast our vote based on God’s values. It’s not just WWJD…it is HWJV? (How Would Jesus Vote) So on my venture to learn how God want’s me to vote in the next election I picked up a copy of “How Should Christians Vote,” By Tony Evans, courtesy of Moody Publishing. For those of you that do not know who Tony Evans is…he is a pastor at Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas. He is the author of many books, speaks at churches and other events all over the country, and is heard on 500 radio stations each day.

In “How Should Christians Vote,” Tony Evans teaches on how Christians can apply biblical principles when considering who to vote for. Evans emphasizes that God is neither Republican or Democrat and that neither party is good or bad. Each party holds policies that value God’s word and each party has some policies that do not. We need to listen to what the candidates have to say, where they stand, and most importantly who they represent. We can not vote on color or political party. And do not vote to make history! Cast your vote to bring glory to God. Tony Evans pulls much scripture that we can use to guide us with our political choice. We learn how the government was formed and what our founding fathers had in mind for all Americans. Most importantly we are reminded that government was created by God, not man. When our leaders display Godly values they are good and our country is good. When our leaders display values that are not honoring to God they are evil and our country suffers.
Obama is a prime example of a president that is dishonoring to God and the outcome is…well just take a look around ya….

Take a stand for your Christian Values and remember to vote God’s way…It is the only way to save this great nation we call home.
On voting day ask yourself, HWJV?

My opinion of Obama does not necessarily reflect the views of the author.

The truth about the Mirena IUD

This is not like any other post I have written.
This is my story…please beware that this blog piece is considered “girl talk.”  If you are a dude and don’t wish to read a conversation that your sister would have with her may want to skip this piece.
about five years ago my son N was born.  I was on Medicaid and was told that I had to go on some sort of birth control right away.  Or I would lose my Medicaid benefits.  After hearing all my options I weighed in on the Mirena IUD.  It sounded so easy…I never had to worry about forgetting to take anything, it was good for five years, and I had a great possibility of not having a period.  Wahooo!  Sold at no menstrual cycle!  I mean who wants to go through all those up’s and down’s every month?  So two months after N was born I had the Mirena IUD inserted.  I felt absolutely no pain.  I wasn’t even sure that it was in there, because I felt nothing.  My doctor assured me it had been placed where it needed to be and there was nothing that I had to do going forward.  She gave me a lil card that told me when (in five year) it needed to be removed or replaced.  And than it all happened…I thought I was going through one of life’s major changes.  It was horrible for the first 6 to 7 months.  I had mood swings, hot flashes, cold flashes,  I was on edge all the time and very tired.  It seemed as though I could not get enough sleep.  I was lethargic all day and I would day dream about being in my bed with the covers wrapped around me, sleeping soundly on the world’s fluffiest pillow. My body started to plump up too.  Before pregnancy I was 120 pounds and within a year and half of having the Mirena inserted I gained close to 35 pounds.  I looked like a oompa loompa.  My chest also got larger and went up three bra sizes.  I ate healthy and I exercised three times a week at the gym and on days I didn’t go to the gym I was walking.  For whatever reason I could not lose any weight.  I felt like I was going to be a whale forever.  There are also times where I would feel blank. I had no emotion and just feel blah. I have also suffered from severe muscle spasms. They were very similar to pain one would feel during a heart attack.  I literally thought I was having a heart attack one evening and my daughter called 911.   During this time I never thought to think that maybe the Mirena contributed to these changes.  I never had a period.  The last time I had a cycle was before my pregnancy with N.  For the last five years I recommended the Mirena IUD to everyone that asked me about it.  I thought it was great!
Five years later…
I look at the same card that I received the day of the insertion and it is time to have this baby replaced.  I go to my doctor and request a new Mirena.  It wasn’t until my insurance provider told me that I had to pay $500 out of pocket for the Mirena that I started to do some research.  The only reason I wanted this thing was because I didn’t want to have a cycle each month.  I started reading stories about women, just like me that were experiencing the same side effects.  All caused by the Mirena IUD.  Many of them wrote that the US didn’t properly report the “after” effects and they had to look at the Canadian website to get the truth.  I do not need to know the truth, because sadly I lived it.  I have since then asked to have the IUD removed.  When I went for the removal appointment my new doctor discovered that there was nothing to discover…he was not able to find the IUD.  He said it, “could be that the string is cut to short or it could have gotten sucked up in there.”  “Wow!  You can’t find it?!  I know it is there somewhere…It was put in and I haven’t had my cycle for six years….unless this thing fell out and pushed me into early menopause, you totally need to find it!”  Today I will go for a procedure so that my doctor can play Marco Polo with the IUD and hopefully he can sneak a peek of it with the camera.  Hopefully, by the time you read this I will be on the road to recovery from the horrid Mirena IUD.
This blog post is just for informational purposes.  It is to share my story and how the Mirena IUD affected my life.  This does not mean that it happens to everybody.  Do a google search and learn for yourself.  You will find there are literally thousands upon thousands of stories that are very similar to mine and they all star the Mirena IUD.  Unfortunately, for the Mirena there is no grammy in it’s future for it’s performance.
