Sweet Treats: Sprinkles at Disney Springs

logo

Disney Springs just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter, and with the opening of Sprinkles Cupcakes last spring this Disney hot spot can’t be beat.  If you haven’t heard of Sprinkles cupcakes you may just be living under a rock.  Sprinkles is home to the world’s first cupcake ATM and has grown to 20 store’s worldwide.  AND is….disney-2x

Sprinkles Cupcakes serves only the finest ingredients; meaning no artificial flavors or preservatives are used.   Your taste buds are guaranteed freshness and extra sweet baked into every cupcake.  Between the ATM and the store they bake and frost nearly 2,000 cupcakes a day!  dscn0076

With this much natural sugar shock going on I had to give in to my craving.  I met up with Jodi, the General Manager at Sprinkles at Disney Springs to get the inside scoop and learn some super cool facts about CUPCAKES!

Jodi has worked at the Sprinkles in LA, Beverly Hills, and Las Vegas  before coming to Florida.  She has been with the Disney Springs bakery since it opened May 2016.  So of course she has seen and experienced a lot in the cupcake world.  When asked what makes Sprinkldscn9934es so different from other bakeries, she replied, “Sprinkles is like a ride. Because you come in and see the cupcakes being made and be a part of the process itself.”  Guests can view cupcakes being frosted through out the day up until closing.  Using a unique frosting technique called the Sprinkles swirl, cupcakes are frosted  all around and finished with a final swirl.   dscn9970

Almost everything is made in-house. For example, the cream cheese whipped cream featured in the Red Velvet Mocha is made in several batches throughout the day.  **Fun Fact** Red velvet is their most popular and signature flavor.  And did you know you can say anything with cupcakes?  Have any message or hashtag spelled out on cupcakes!

message-bdaybdaybday

“We’ve had message boxes that ask “Will you marry me?  My favorite messages are those for weddings or ones with bridal shower hashtags.” (Jodi, 2017)  Sharing happy messages with special humans is just too sweet with Sprinkles Cupcakes. This is by far the most joyful cupcake I have ever seen.   They are also the best cupcake I have ever tasted.  Sprinkle’s cupcakes are so moist that they melt in your mouth and they go great with a sweet cup of coffee.  My favorite combination is a Red Velvet Cupcake and the Red Velvet Mocha.  Other specialty drinks are available.

While there is only one Cupcake ATM currently at Disney Springs, Jodi hinted towards the franchise’s expansion and their hopes to add a second soon.

My visit to Sprinkles is just a few months shy of their one year anniversary.  I can’t wait to find out how they will celebrate!  Til then join the Sprinkles Perks program to earn free cupcakes!!!  Thank you, Jodi for the opportunity to experience Sprinkles and the world’s greatest cupcake with my family!

Art Walk Around the World Showcase- EPCOT

photopass_visiting_epcot_7934994742

Celebrate the arts during Epcot’s  Festival of the Arts taking place now through February 20th! Enjoy this cultural celebration with succulent dishes, masters of the arts, and family entertainment.  This is great fun for kids of all ages!  PhotoPass photographers can be found in select areas throughout the park.  Enjoy a palette of photo opportunites in which you can literally step into the canvas and become part of the masterpiece.  This was my favorite!

Get as creative as you want as long as you are being respectful.  If you dare pose inappropriately PhotoPass will kindly refrain from taking your picture.  Unfortunately I witnessed a guest pose as  if she was picking the nose of the woman in the hat in Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s famous, idyllic luncheon.  The PhotoPass Photographer requested the guest to change her pose and when the guest refused PhotoPass put the camera down and the magic of Disney PhotoPass came to an end for that guest.  Common courtesy to the artist and the art goes a long way.

As you make your way through the World Showcase you may see artists painting, sketching, or making sidewalk chalk art.  An array of art sellers are also on display. It is truly an awe inspiring experience.

Of course you will see lots of walking art, in the form of Minnie ears!  My daughter and I expressively showed off our new ears…Snuggly Duffy and Pastel Bambi print ears from two enchanting ear boutiques on ETSY.

photopass_visiting_epcot_7935257423

The Duffy inspired ears are from Emily’s Enchanting Art and made with the softest bear fur fabric and stuffed with a polyester filling to give them shape and volume.   The ears are firm and adorned with a sailor striped bow and a hidden Mickey.  Cute ears without the headache…making them great to wear around the parks.  If you have thin hair you may want to bobby pin the ears in to avoid slipping and to secure them on faster moving attractions.  I absolutley love how cute and patriotic these ears are. Just like Mickey’s special teddy bear Duffy, these ears are sure to be a favorite!dscn9583

My daughter, Allison is seen wearing Bambi inspired ears from 3rd Star on the Right.  Shanna Johnston, ear designer for 3rd Star on the Right uses a unique sewing method when attaching all pieces of the ears together.  This leaves a cleaner, more polished look to the Minnie ears.  The bambi ears are made with a pastel colored fabric that highlight’s fan favorite’s: Bambi and Thumper and finished off with a centered turquoise bow.  You can also find Disney inspired journals in Shanna’s Etsy shop online.

Of course the walking art doesn’t stop there…everyone knows Disney Tee’s are a great way to express yourself….and so we did.  Sporting Race Junkie’s  Castle “Home” hoodies  on a  frigid Florida winter day.  The material is soft to the touch and does not cling.  The fit is similiar to that of a tunic.  It is great to Disney Bound in and even better paired with a pair of joggers or a tutu for the perfect run attire.

There is still time to experience the Festival of the Arts at Epcot.  This event ends on February 20th.  Family fun, culture, and inspiration for everyone!

A Dapper Day at Disney

4dfe0b38ffbc29e4-dapperheaderdot_900d2

Dapper Day is an extraordinary event that turns Disney into the fanciest place on earth, as Disney goers dress up in their Sunday best.  Although this is not a period style specific event, many guests deck out in vintage clothing- mostly from the 50’s.  For the first time in forever my children and I stepped out in style with thousands of other Disnerds and enjoyed retro fun. 15057376_363029200698880_3377859862678470656_nOur theme was the 101 Dalmatians; do the polka dots give it away?   I was going for a classy Cruella De Vil.  Don’t we look dashing?!  The Disney D brooch I am wearing is from retro queen, Kimi Babbitt.  She was super sweet and made my group Dalmatian D’s for this event.  14309962_506129446178486_4264862865199988736_nDisney D’s can be made to match any theme or character.  Kimi’s D’s add a touch of vintage class and retro sparkle to any outfit. Check out Kimi’s boutique: The Star Brite Motel on Etsy to preview just a handful of her creations.  Follow Star Brite Motel on Instagram for updates on unique custom designs.

Upon arrival we were directed to park at Magic Kingdom as Epcot’s parking lot was closed and full to capacity.  Despite the incredible crowds that were driven by this semi-annual event we strutted our stuff around the World Showcase with much exuberance.  It was absolutely amazing to get lost in a crowd of fabulously dressed Disney Lovers.  Everybody was giddy and happy.  If for only a brief moment I felt as though my children and I time warped back in time.  I can’t wait til Spring 2017!  For more information visit the official Dapper Day website.

Thank you to all my fellow retro fashionista’s for spreading the Dapper joy!  May you always be Dapper!

Florida Mermaids Take Aquatica

444Feel like a fish out of water? We certainly don’t because at Aquatica Orlando, there is fin-fun for everyone. Guests can experience thrilling water slides, relaxing rivers, wondrous wave pools and unique animal encounters at this family-friendly water park. We let down our mermaid hair for the day and had an absolute splash!

Even with autumn upon us, Florida has persisted to bring bouts of sunshine and warm weather our way in place of the crimson leaves and cooler days expected of the harvest season. But for a family of mer-friends, there’s no adventure more promising than a day spent swimming through the waters of the seven seas to capture the tropical embrace of a Floridian Fall.78

In gratitude to SeaWorld Orlando graciously providing us with complimentary media passes to explore Aquatica from a dolphinately different perspective, Juliet Cahow, the author of Juliet the First, and myself put our fins together and set sail on a refreshing voyage.

“Water, dolphins, and merfolk equates to water park fun!” -Holly  Spoonley

Aquatica is uniquely SeaWorld, as upon entering the park visitors are greeted by a friendly display of Commerson’s dolphins. This proves a clever choice, since the species is related to killer whales, which are more largely representative of the theme park’s signature mascot, Shamu. Despite their small size, the friendly creatures provided a warm welcome and reminded our mermaid party of four that Aquatica isn’t too far distanced from the ocean, with animal encounters spread throughout the park.

Loggerhead Lane, an attraction with salt water running through its veins almost as much 2as ours, is one of these featured up-close experiences. The lazy river ride takes visitors on a journey beneath an arch of exotic fish and past a wall from which the Commerson’s dolphins can again be viewed. Although brief, it offers a special opportunity for guests to feel encapsulated by a far-off world and acts as a perfect attraction for merchildren of all ages.

Aquatica also offers two side-by-side waterslides, HooRoo Run and Walhalla Wave, which allow families to wave the shore goodbye together as they depart on a wild ride through the ocean’s current. We flipped our fins through HooRoo Run more than once, where we enjoyed a triple-dip water run that gave us the sense of complete weightlessness until our raft met the dock.
While SeaWorld’s Aquatica provides guests with opportunities rivaled only by the potential treasures of the lost city of Atlantis, we were still able to arrive late and make our way to every attraction at least twice. The park’s small size is likely unnoticeable to traveling merfolk, but as Disney-frequents, the lack of dense crowds allowed for us to leave satisfied within a few hours. For tourists planning a vacation, or even Florida residents preparing for a brief staycation, a maximum of three to five hours should allow you to enjoy the water park without limiting you from embarking on another adventure for the day. The water park is still worth the visit for merfolk who are looking for something a little different and less intense than a traditional set of looming slides, with other options like Aquatica’s Dolphin Plunge and Roa’s Rapids, which lack the intimidating quality of other attractions housed at competing water parks.
With just the right amount of smiles, seashells, and mermaid vibes, SeaWorld’s Aquatica is a must to bring back the warmth of the sunshine state on any dreary day. It was the perfect pick-me-up for two sandy, coffee-driven mer-bloggers, and might just be the little piece of paradise every fish in the sea needs.

Aquatica brings the feel of “reel”y spending a day at the beach, as we even got the chance to bury our toes in the sand.
Hugs and fishes,
